Abstract
Genetic variability of nine accessions of pickling cucumber was determined using canonical discriminant analysis of eight morphological traits.
Five accessions were highly inbred lines, currently in use in cucumber breeding in Yugoslavia, while the other four accessions represented cucumber populations considered to be valuable for future cucumber improvement.
In three-dimensional view, after the canonical discriminant analysis, all accessions expressed significant levels of variability among themselves, with the population P7 and inbred line L5 as the most divergent.
The distribution of accessions was associated with genetic constitution and sex expression.
Regarding the present divergence between highly inbred lines and populations, inclusion of the populations in new cucumber breeding projects could be justified and recommended.
