Abstract
Effect of substrates on fruit quality was studied on tomato fruit of variety BAYA (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) grown under commercial plastic greenhouses in the three most commonly used substrates (Soil, Perlite and Rockwool) in Greek greenhouses.
Tomato plants from tomato varieties BAYA, ALMA, POLO and IRON were grown in Perlite (Greek local produced substrate) in the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania glasshouse in order to investigate the effect of genetic variation on fruit quality.
TSS, pH, tritatable acidity and color (L, a* and b* color system), were the parameters measured in order to determine the fruit quality in this experiment.
One-way ANOVA test was used in order to determine if there are any significant differences in the measurements among the different treatments.
According to our results fruit quality was affected only by tomato variety and not by substrate.
