D’ANJOU AND BOSC FRUIT QUALITY AS AFFECTED BY ROOTSTOCK AND TRAINING SYSTEM

Generally ‘d’Anjou’ fruit from Central leader (CL) trained trees exhibited the least amount of mechanical injury, while ‘d’Anjou’ fruit from Mid-Columbia Central Leader (MCL) trained trees exhibited the greatest mechanical damage.
Generally ‘Bosc’ fruit from MCL trained trees or trees on OHxF 69 roots exhibited the least mechanical damage, while ‘Bosc’ fruit on CL trained trees exhibited the greatest mechanical damage.
Generally ‘d’Anjou’ fruit from MCL trained trees or trees on OHxF 40 roots showed the least rot and decay, while ‘d’Anjou’ fruit from CL trained trees or trees on OHxF 97 roots showed the greatest decay.
Generally, ‘Bosc’ fruit from CL trained trees showed the least rot and decay.
Significant differences existed between rootstock-training system combinations and peel mineral contents; although, the peel nutrient levels did not explain the defect differences observed.
