Abstract
Fourteen selected plants of both red and white currant cultivars originating from two distant locations were tested for the presence of BRV by PCR. When the BRV specific primers 1: 5´- GTA ATA CGC TGG TGT CTC 3´ and 2: 5´- GAA AGG ACA TTT CAG ACT C 3´ were used to amplify the 210-nt terminal fragment of BRV RNA 2, the specific PCR products were obtained from thirteen red and white currant plants.
When primer 5: 5´- AAA CCA GAC CCA GGT GAG TG 3´ and primer 6: 5´- GGA CAC TTC CAT ATA AGT CGG C 3´ were used to amplify the 481-nt 3´terminal fragment of BRV RNA 2, a 481-nt PCR product was amplified from one selected red currant plant of ´Mulka´ and from one white currant plant of ´Blanka´. A comparison of these two amplified sequences with BRV sequences available in the GenBank confirmed the presence of BRV in red and white currant plants with symptoms of the full blossom disease.
