PROBLEMS OF CONTINUOUS MULTIPLICATION IN VITRO OF THE ARTICHOKE (CYNARA SCOLYMUS), TUDELA VARIETY, AND HOW TO SOLVE THEM THROUGH THE INTERMITTENT ADDITION OF A GROWTH REGULATOR TO THE CULTURE MEDIUM – THE INFLUENCE OF PACLOBUTRAZOL (CULTAR) ON THE DIFFERENT PHASES OF PROPAGATION

Any plant material to be used in agricultural cultivation must maintain a series of characteristics throughout the complete growth cycle.
The use of vitroplants as crop material or for improvements, as in the case of the artichoke in the obtaining of F1 hybrids, the parent line has to have certain specific characteristics through the various multiplications.
The present paper is related to this problem.
It has been observed that the systematic application of phytoregulators to the culture medium has a depressive effect.
The intermittent application of phytohormones has solved this problem.
Moreover, in order to reduce the number of transplants, one of the causes which have been described for the loss of homogeneity in the crops. commercial Paclobutrazol in the commercial form of Cultar has been applied in doses of 0 to 10 mg per litre of culture medium.
As well as helping to retain the vegetation, it has been shown that the dose of 5 mg per litre increases the efficiency of obtaining plants, especially in the decisive taking-root phase of the explants.
