Abstract
An ample plum breeding program was started in 195o in order to modernize and make profitable plum growing in Romania.
Within this program which still continues, 32 promising hybrids have been produced of which 14 are early ripening hybrids.
Sexual hybridizations among the best domestic varieties and valuable foreign varieties, backcrossings (in F2 and F3), irradiation and severe selection of the resulted hybrids were used for the purpose.
The hybrids have attractive, big fruits (4o–79 g), with a high content of dry matter, with small, free stone (2.4 – 4.6%) and good firmness and harmonious taste.
