Abstract
A study on the use of Derris sp. formulae to control insect pests in yardlong bean (Vigna unguiculata cv. sesquipedalis) was conducted at Vegetable Section, Lampang Agricultural Research and Training Center in the January to April 2006 growing season.
The experimental design used was a RCBD with five treatments and each with four replications.
The treatments consisted of control (no spray), chemical spray (cyhalothrin and zineb), Derris Formula I (Derris + Stemona sp.), Derris Formula II (Derris + Piper retrofractum + Cymbopogon nardus) and Derris Formula III (Derris + Cymbopogon nardus). Results revealed that there were no differences in total yield and yield components of yardlong bean among treatments.
Nevertheless, treatments that tended to yield high fresh weight were Derris Formula II, Derris Formula I and control with the averages of 2,506.67, 2,426.64 and 2,177.76 kg.
Rai-1, respectively.
The rotenone and other chemical residues in fresh yardlong bean at harvest were found in trace amounts, which were far below the critical levels harmful to human health.
