Abstract
Winter rape plants were grown under natural environmental conditions.
Their growth, frost tolerance and growth regulators’ content were determined every two weeks, throughout the winter season.
Determinations of gibberellin-like activity revealed three chromatographic zones active in the dwarf pea bioassay.
Determination of inhibitors’ activity revealed two chromatographic zones showing activity in the wheat coleoptile bioassay.

It was found that the inhibition of the leaf growth observed in the autumn was correlated with the decrease of the gibberellin-like substances content.
The leaf senescence, observed in March, corresponded to the further decrease of the gibberellin level.
The changes in the inhibitors’ content were found to be well correlated with the frost tolerance changes: the total inhibitor activity changes were due to the changes in the content of abscisic acid – like substances.
The important role of ABA in frost hardening of winter rape plants is suggested.
