Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the current Iranian organic grapefruit industry.
A SWOT analysis was conducted with respect to the production, processing, and marketing of the industry.
Data were gathered using two methods, firstly documentary studies and secondly a survey.
The results are presented in a SWOT framework, and are divided into four categories; First, strengths such as increasing demand, and low costs of production.
Second, weaknesses such as a lack of research and development of high-yielding varieties, a lack of cooled and controlled atmosphere storage facilities in the region, and the absence of a national logo and standards for organic products.
Third, opportunities such as the geo-strategic position of Iran which is the fastest growing market for organic consumption in the world.
Finally, threats such as competition, transportation costs, drought and climatic changes.
