Abstract
The suitability of flurprimidol preplant bulb soaks and substrate drenches to control growth control of greenhouse forced bulbs were studied.
Flurprimidol provided stem stretch control of tulips as a preplant bulb soak at concentrations of 10 to 25 mg/L. Preplant bulb soaks were not effective on Red Flash caladiums, but substrate drenches of 2 mg a.i. control plant height.
For hyacinths, flurprimidol provided stem stretch control as a preplant bulb soak as a concentration 10 to
25 mg/L, but the concentration was cultivar dependant.
A substrate drench of flurprimidol at 1 mg a.i. per pot was required to control hyacinth stem stretch.
For Tête-à-Tête narcissus, a preplant bulb soak of 30 mg/L flurprimidol or a 0.69 mg a.i. substrate drench were effective.
A preplant bulb soak of 20 mg/L flurprimidol was required for stem stretch control of Dutch Master narcissus.
Excessive stretch of Star Gazer Oriental lily was controlled with a flurprimidol preplant bulb soak at 25 mg/L or a substrate drench of 0.5 mg a.i.
Flurprimidol has been shown to be effective at controlling plant height for a number of bulb species and will be a valuable tool for producing quality plants.
