Abstract
Pantoea agglomerans strains are among the most promising biocontrol agents for fire blight, but this species is considered an opportunistic human pathogen due to sporadic detections in clinical samples.
However, we previously demonstrated that misidentification of other Enterobacteriaceae as P. agglomerans is frequent, mainly due to poor biochemical characterization of the species which is based on an outdated taxonomy.
The aim of this work was to evaluate the use of Whole Cell MALDI-TOF MS (matrix assisted laser desorption ionization – time of flight mass spectrometry) for quick and reliable identification of P. agglomerans.
