EVALUATION OF SEEDED BANANA TYPES FOR BIOTIC STRESS

Abstract
In the present investigations 34 seeded banana types with B genome were evaluated for biotic stresses, at the Horticultural Research Station, Mondouri of India during the years 2005-2008. Cluster number varied between 4 and 5. In each clustering technique, Seed Banana-4 and Seed Banana-6 grouped together, and Kalyani Local-4 and Seed Banana-13 formed another group.
In PCA, two factors were considered to have Eigen values greater than 1 explaining 58.70% of total variation in the factorial distribution of seeded banana types. Kalyani Local-4, Seed Banana-13, Mondouri Local-2, Kalyani Local-2 and Seed Banana-6 were most susceptible to Sigatoka (leaf spot disease) and bunchy top, while Seed Banana-7, Maricha, Seed Banana-15, Jhama Daira, Seed Banana-18 and Baruipur were more prone to leaf-scarring beetle and Fusarium wilt.
