Abstract
The experiment was carried out on one-year-old branches of Jin RS-1 (a new walnut rootstock strain bred by Shanxi Academy of Forestry Sciences, 2011), Zhonglin 1, LuGuang, JinXiang, and treated at 5 temperature regimes: 0, -10, -20, -30 and -40°C. The effects on SOD total activity, MDA content and free proline content under the low temperature stress has been analyzed.
As the temperature decreases, SOD total activity in the four cultivars increased to a certain level and later declined at -40°C treatment.
The SOD total activity in JinXiang and LuGuang showed two peaks with alternating high-low trend; SOD total activity in Jin RS-1 and Zhonglin1 showed a high-low trend.
There were significant differences in SOD total activity (P<0.05) among the 4 walnut strains.
The MDA content of the 4 strains raised with fall of temperature, Jin RS-1 and LuGuang showed low-high trend, JinXiang and Zhonglin1 showed high trend; there were significant differences (P<0.05) among the 4 strains in the MDA content.
The free proline content of the 4 strains raised with fall of temperature, but the changes in free proline content between the 4 strains were different, and the free proline contents under the same temperature treatment showed significant differences (P<0.05).
