Abstract
Cashew nut (Anacardium occidentale L.) is one of the important horticulture crop, which has got great socio-economic and environmental significance in the country.
The cultivation has been distributed in Asian countries such as all South and Eastern Indian states in India, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, West and East African countries, and Brazil.
In India, cashew nut acreage is highly concentrated in East coast regions (Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and West Bengal) i.e., about 50% of area under cashew compared to West coast regions (Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra), which contribute 47% of acreage.
With respect to output, the West coast regions contribute nearly 56% of the total production compared with merely 41% from the East coast region.
Agro-climatic zones and the cashew cultivation with suitable cultivars will be presented in this paper.
