PERFORMANCE OF CASHEW CULTIVARS UNDER COASTAL ZONE OF KARANATAKA

Abstract
The study was conducted at the Horticultural Research Station, Ullal, situated in the coastal zone of Karnataka, during the year 1997. The experiment comprised 8 cultivars/selections/hybrids viz., BLA-39-4, 11/6 Goa, Vengurla-1, K-22-1, Selection-2, Kanaka, Dhana and NDR-2-1. This result of the study revealed that cultivar NDR-2-1 recorded maximum seed weight (10.82 g), yield per plant (20.89 kg) and apple weight (105.0 g) followed by 11/6 Goa (8.92 g, 14.59 kg, and 63.18 g), Vengurla-1 (4.48 g, 13.23 kg and 46.53 g) and K-22-1 (5.80 g,
11.77 kg and 40.0 g), respectively.
The least, seed weight (4.48 g) in Vengurla-1, yield per plant (7.71) in Selection-2 and apple weight (40.0 g) was found in the cultivar K-22-1. It is observed from the present investigation that NDR-2-1 performed better in the coastal zone of Karnataka and is one of the best cashew cultivars for harvesting between the months of March and May.
