Abstract
Raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV) is a pollen spread disease that infects Rubus sp. and typically causes reduced plant vigour and crumbly fruit.
This is a problem for production systems that rely on long-term cropping and high quality fruit such as the processed raspberry industry in the northwestern United States.
A number of red raspberry cultivars are resistant to RBDV and at least one common source of resistance is conferred by the dominant gene designated Bu, which is thought to be present only in the heterozygous state in raspberry.
This gene has not yet been fully characterized and in this study we report on our preliminary findings in the development of molecular markers to identify the Bu gene and their potential for marker-assisted breeding for RBDV resistance in red raspberry.
