Abstract
The Swedish certification scheme for soft fruit species has been in action for 30 years.
There is no tolerance for pests and diseases (P&D, listed in SJVFS 2010:47) on nuclear stock plants.
Samples are regularly taken in the production fields for certified plants, and sent for external laboratory analysis.
The Elite Plant Station is responsible for P&D testing and treatments, true-to-type tests and for keeping the nuclear stock plants isolated and healthy.
All propagation starts from a nuclear stock plant which has been tested for P&D as prescribed in the directives.
The certification at the elite plant level has worked well, and the Elite Plant Station also acts as a national gene bank for certified fruit and berry varieties.
