Abstract
The cultivation of pecan trees in agroforestry systems is seen as a promising alternative for farmers to adapt arboriculture to climate change in France.
Pecan trees possess a wide range of genetic diversity, providing cultivars suited to humid continental temperate climates like those observed in the country.
The French Pecan project, led by the Association Française d’Agroforesterie (https://www.agroforesterie.fr/french-pecan) and supported by the EU and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, aims to develop an agroforestry-based pecan industry in France.
The project focuses on documenting and experimenting pecan cultivation, designing agroforestry systems, disseminating knowledge, and expanding pecan production across the country.
The initiative also has the potential to benefit other European countries like Spain and Italy.
