Abstract
As the world contends with challenges of population growth and environmental strain, there is an urgent demand for practices that ensure access to nutritious food while minimizing environmental impact.
This study explores the potential of enhancing nutritional value for ghaf (Prosopis cineraria) microgreens as a sustainable solution for nutrition security.
The adaptability of ghaf to diverse climates and minimal resource requirements positions it as a promising candidate to address pressing challenges.
The investigation focuses on priming ghaf seeds with ZnO nanoparticles, revealing a significant enhancement in seed germination rate and percentage.
Among the treatments, ZnO at 500 ng mL‑1 stood out, exhibiting the highest germination rate at 93%. The mineral analysis indicated dose-dependent alterations in macro- and micro-nutrients, emphasizing ZnO at 500 ng mL‑1 role in elevating potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc levels in the plant.
Micronutrient concentrations increased but still not exceeding the recommended values.
These findings highlight the potential of ZnO nano-priming, particularly ZnO at 500 ng mL‑1, for promoting growth and nutrient accumulation in ghaf microgreens.
Combining ghaf microgreens, innovative seed priming with ZnO nanoparticles, and timely harvesting would present an eco-friendly and sustainable strategy to produce nutritious food and promote agricultural sustainability.
