Breeding of a new huge fruit size and high quality litchi cultivar ‘Jumeiren’

‘Jumeiren’ is a new huge fruit size and high quality litchi cultivar bred from the cross of ‘Ziniangxi’ × ‘Wuheli’. The female parent ‘Ziniangxi’ is famous for its great fruit size, but it has poor fruit quality.
The male parent ‘Wuheli’ produces seedless fruit, but the seedless rate varies among production years and lines.
The cross was done in 2008 and the seeds were potted in sandy soil.
All seedlings were transplanted in open field with density of 2×3 m in April 2010. The superior seedling ‘ZW055’ was selected in 2014. Then it was top-grafted in Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, and Guangzhou in Guangdong province.
It has a huge fruit size, average 50 g and the biggest can reach 78 g.
The fruit is heart-shaped and has a bright red color.
The flesh is white, smooth and tender.
The content of soluble solids is 17.2% and the eatable rate is 76.0%. In Yangjiang, fruit ripens from the beginning to the middle of June.
Comparison tests and production adaptability tests were carried out with ‘Ziniangxi’ as the control from 2017 to 2022. The results showed that it is a middle season cultivar with good quality, high yield and stable yield.
In 2022, it obtained the new plant cultivar right.
