Abstract
The steroid alkaloid /solasodine, tomatidenol, soladulcidine/ production of some Solanum species like S. nigrum L., S. luteum Mill., S. alatum Mönch., S. americanum Mill., and S. dulcamara L. taxa growing in the Northern temperate climatic zone is compared with that of certain subtropical ones like S. laciniatum Ait., /S. aviculare Forst./ and S. khasianum Clarke.
From among taxa above the tomatidenol containing S. dulcamara L. proved to be the most promising steroid source.
The first four species are evaluated as possible protein sources too.
