RESISTANCE TO FROST AND WINTERING OF SOME APRICOTS VARIETIES WITH DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL ORIGIN UNDER ROMANIAN PLAIN CONDITIONS
In 1983 positive temperatures (+16°C on February 11) alternated with negative ones (- 8°C and – 16°C on February 16 and 18, respectively).
Particular meteorological phenomena such as crystaline hoar-frost and ice on branches, correlated with permanently negative temperatures manifested in January 1987, followed by three warm periods above the biological threshold, during February-March.
The losses caused to flower-buds were higher in 1983 and 1987. The resistance of the Romanian varieties: Neptun, Rosii de Baneasa, Excelsior, Comandor, Favorit, Sulina, Selena, Callatis, Olimp, Litoral, was the utmost criterion for their using in the production orchards.
The studies on isozymic ranges demonstrated the resistance of peroxidase and susceptibility of dehydrogenase malate to cold.
