Abstract
Experimental plots were marked out in Roussillon to test in commercial conditions the possibility to use cross-protection as a way to control the Chlorotic leaf roll disease in apricot.
A definite difference between the number of protected and control trees affected by the disease was observed.
Protected trees showed various growth anomalies and, in most years, yielded a reduced crop particularly when apricot seedlings were used as rootstock.
To overcome this drawback, we might look for combinations of rootstocks and cultivars which would react more mildly.
Another possibility would be to use, as protected clones, graftwood from trees from the experimental plots considered here, which showed a particularly good growth, if it was confirmed that they were actually protected as tests in progress suggest.
