Abstract
At present one of the most practical control measures against canker and dieback (apoplexy) diseases of apricot is the treatment of wounds with antifungal and antibacterial compounds because the pathogens (Cytospora cincta and Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae) can penetrate into the woody tissues through wounds.
For the wound treatments we tried the use of antagonistic microorganisms in order to avoid environmental pollution.
For this reason we looked for such antagonists which can keep the pathogens at a low level.
In vitro and in vivo experiments proved that some strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens, some epiphytic bacteria and the fungi Trichoderma koningii, Fusarium lateritium and Coniothyrium sp. inhibited the growth of C. cincta.
