Abstract
The results of a test carried out in Sardinia involving shape pruning of a 25-year-old orchard of ‘Gialla’ prickly pears are reported.

The effects were, on the whole, positive, with the production of vigorous shoots from the pruned branches and limited yield loss.

In fact, only in the first year was there a loss in fruit yield dur to the development of new shoots.
By the second year, equilibrium was near to being re-established, due to the renewed yield capacity within the canopy.
