Abstract
Wastage of tomatoes from disease under conditions in Australia is caused by Geotrichum candidum, Erwinia carotovora pv. carotovora, Rhizopus spp, Botrytis spp, Fusarium and Cladosporium. The most commonly occurring pathogens are G. candidum and E. carotovora. It was reported that guazatine was the most promising chemical for control of G. condidum and E. carotovora infections of tomatoes (Morris, 1985), and borax could inhibit the ethylene production and ripening of tomatoes in China.
In this paper, we examine the use of borax, guazatine and borax + guazatine for controlling the ripening and postharvest diseases of tomatoes in Australia.
