Abstract
Identification of weed species and populations in lowbush blueberry by air could provide a rapid method for determining herbicide treatment applications and treatment necessity in these locations.
Weed and blueberry cover were established by a ground survey and compared to airborne video images and 70 mm false color infrared photos.
Differences in cover and frequency from the ground survey on different size plots indicated the scale of the sample does affect the results.
Few classes of weeds could be distinguished with the airborne video images as compared to the ground survey.
It was not possible to completely separate blueberries from other weeds species using this technology.
The 70 mm false color images were quantified using a multiband videographic recorder.
Multispectral analysis of the near infrared videographic images were used to develop the spectral signature of the blueberry and provided more accurate results than the visible video camera.
