Abstract
In Eastern Europe one can find abundant natural resources of bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus L.), bog whortleberry (V. uliginosum L.), cowberries (V. vitis–idaea L.) and small cranberries (V. oxycoccus L.). Most of research works is done on survey of natural resources in forests of Russia, Byelorussia, Ukraine and Baltic states.
In recent years, Eastern Europe became interested in growing of North American highbush blueberries and large cranberries.
There are however, some limiting factors that may affect future berry industry such as severe winters cool summers and shortage of water (drought).
