Abstract
Ten cultivars (cvs.) with desirable colors were pre-chilled and forced for December shipping.
The growth and development of flower buds were hastened and both sprouting and flowering times were accelerated by the pre-chilling treatment.
Cvs. with or without high flowering percentages and increased number of petals were observed but the qualities of cut flower viz. shoot length, weight of cut flower and leaf expansion were not satisfactory compared to the non pre-chilled control.
Of the cultivars forced, vivid red-colored ‘Kohkijishi’ pre-chilled at 12°C is recommended for December shipping.
