Abstract
Kiwifruit was first introduced to Turkey in 1988. During the last few years significant progress has been achieved.
Several experiments have been conducted at different agro-ecological zones, mainly in the Black Sea, Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean Region, and considerable information have been collected on plant-climate and plant-soil relations.
Now it appears that the area suitable for kiwifruit cultivation in Turkey is plentiful.
To elucidate the fundamental principles of crop management and production systems more specifically some further experiments should be initiated in these areas.
Concerning cultivation systems, fertilization, plant protection, harvest and post harvest technology, a number of experiments are already being conducted at Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute in Yalova, which is the Coordinator Institute in the body of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Kiwi is now one of the most favored fruit in the market among commercially grown about 35 fruit species in Turkey.
The demand for this crop has been met through importation by 80%, mainly from Greece, Italy, and New Zealand.
If the existing enthusiasm continue, kiwi cultivation will inevitably spread to many parts of the country and production will increase by many folds.
But this development is not expected to be such an extent that it is going to alter the overall flow of the fruit industry.
However introduction of this crop to new areas, where only some particular crops like tea, hazelnut, etc. are grown, will bring considerable satisfaction.
