Abstract
The effects of salinity on plant behavior were studied on a potato crop grown in lysimeters filled with loam and clay and irrigated with three waters of different salinity.
The plant-water status was characterized by 2 parameters: the predawn leaf water potential and the stomatal conductance.
They were found to be sensitive to salt stress.
Plant growth shows a good coherence with the plant-water parameters.
Salt stress reduced the total biomass.
The sensitivity to salinity was greater at tuberization and tuber bulking than at early vegetative growth and maturity.
The yield of potatoes was rather sensitive to salinity but water use efficiency was not affected by soil type and salinity.
