Abstract
Trees in urban environments are weakened by the complex effects of urban stresses, and are therefore, easy victims of certain pests and diseases.
Native species have the advantage of being adapted, but they also are prone to damage because of the presence of their native enemies.
The introduced (non-native) species on the other hand are initially somewhat protected in this respect being of limited susceptibility to the specific pests and diseases of native dendroflora.
The advantages is temporary, however, and is over as soon as their enemies arrive from their home country and / or local pests adapt to the new potential host.
The paper gives descriptions of the four most dangerous recent urban pests, a full list of scales (Coccideae) and the pest management calendar in Budapest.
