Abstract
Today both non-destructive and destructive methods can be used to properly assess the presence of tree decay.

Urban trees with known age of the genus Tilia were tested with different tools in the North of Italy (Bologna).

Some lime trees show the decay caused by Ganoderma resinaceum and different tools could be compared in conditions of real decay.

The results of the test reports were entered into a database to be compared.
