Abstract
Unprovoked transmission of poinsettia mosaic virus in poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. ex Klotzsch) has been observed in Norwegian greenhouses.
No transmission pathways have previously been reported.
We tested the possibility of mechanical soil transmission by adding virus suspensions to soil of potted poinsettia free from poinsettia mosaic virus.
We found only 3 virus infected plants of 164 inoculated.
Mechanical soil transmission is probably not the cause of natural spread of this virus.
