Abstract
Medicinal plants that home among their active compound, essential oils, have revealed promising in weed control.
Essential oils possess several activities, and might work as a natural herbicide.
Bidens pilosa seeds sowed in vase, were submitted daily or in alternate days to aqueous gross extracts of medicinal plants “losna” (Artemisia absinthium) and lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). These species possess in their composition essential oils.
The analysis of the emerged plants of B. pilosa indicates that the plants A. absinthium and C. citratus possess strong allelopathic inhibitor effect on B. pilosa.
However it was observed that the different forms of preparation of the aqueous gross extract affected the initial development of B. pilosa distinctly.
The aqueous gross extract as infusion was more effective, presenting harmful effect on the seedlings, hindering its development.
The medicinal plants used in the present work showed promising effects in control B. pilosa seed germination.
