Abstract
– Allelopathy of the Aqueous Extract of Medicinal Plants on Picao Preto Seeds Germination
      The alelopathy is a natural phenomenon and is the result of the liberation of substances capable of killing or to inhibit the growth of other plants.
Several composed secondary of medicinal and aromatic plants have alelopathic property. “Picao preto” (Bidens pilosa) is a weed with possible negative effects on plants crops, it can be said that the alelopathic effect that some plants possess, especially the medicinal.
Species could contribute to weed control, because they are easy to obtain for studies. “Picao preto” seeds (Bidens pilosa) were submitted to aqueous extracts of 10 medicinal plants, at a concentration of 20%. The results demonstrate that the treatments with the aqueous gross extracts of the plants Achillea millefolium, Cymbopogon citratus, Aristolochia triangularis, Artemisia absinthium and Baccharis trimera do not differ significantly of the control treatment.
However, the treatments with the aqueous gross extracts of Tetradenia riparia, Artemisia camphorata, Ruta graveolens, Rosmarinus officinalis and Cymbopogon winterianus provided strong inhibition of the germination of the B. pilosa seeds and they differed significantly from the control treatment.
To obtain natural herbicides that affect only the plants considered weeds, it is necessary that additional work is conducted to evaluated different medicinal plants, dosages and application methods or different concentrations, as well as the determination of the biological activity of secondary metabolites that might contribute in a significant way in the acquisition of knowledge in this field.
