PREVALENCE OF ROOT-KNOT NEMATODES IN CULTIVATED HERBS OF THE LABIACEAE FAMILY IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL (BRAZIL)

Abstract
Root-knot nematodes of the genera Meloidogyne were found infecting seven plant species of the Labiaceae family (Rosmarinus officinalis, Lavandula angustifolia, Lavandula hybrida, Salvia officinalis, Thymus vulgaris, Origanum majorana, Melissa officinalis), but were absent of two species of lavender (L. dentata and L. latifolia). Females extracted from infected roots were submitted to esterase isozyme analysis for species identification.
Each species presented a unique typical esterase profile.
The species found were M. javanica (54%), M. hapla (26%), M. arenaria (6%), and M. incognita (14%). Variation in the frequency of the four species of nematodes was observed among the fields evaluated.
Preferential parasitism by nematode species against the seven susceptible plants was determinated.
