Abstract
Japanese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) cultivar Akemizu was bred from a cross of Shinsui × 42-6 at the Kanagawa Horticultural Experimental Station. Akemizu is an early-maturing cultivar which is harvested a week to ten days earlier than Shinsui. The skin is yellowish red brown, and the fruit is round, averaging 320 g.
The fruit features a Brix of roughly 13%, with slight acidity and fine, fresh taste.
The fruit keeps its quality well for five days at room temperature.
The Akemizu tree has rather few axillary flower buds.
It flowers early, roughly during the same period as Niitaka.
