INTRODUCTION OF FORCING CULTURE IN NASHI AND AN ATTEMPT TO ELUCIDATE DORMANT BUD RESPIRATION

Under the forcing culture in ‘Kousui’ Nashi, the problem solver on poor-colored skin appearance has been requested.
Recent enforcement of water spray to tree canopy in order to maintain high humidity resulted in a well-developed dot on the skin of ‘Kousui’ fruit grown in a heated greenhouse.
This could be an applicable and recommendable practice in forcing culture of partially brown on yellowish green ground color such as ‘Kousui’, particularly.
Another problem is how to ascertain the termination of endo-dormancy aiming at enforcing the growth of buds by heating.
An attempt to measure respiratory activities of dormant bud has been done; a peak of respiration was found in late-December to early-January, irrespective of normal and cyanide resistant pathways, which corresponded to the period when endo-dormancy were broken.
So, this event could function a role to control redox state, bringing about the shifting from endo- to eco-dormancy in terms of physiological change.
