Abstract
Twenty-one Prunus rootstocks were evaluated under greenhouse conditions against the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica (two trials), lesion nematode Pratylenchus vulnus (two trials) and crown gall, Agrobacterium tumefaciens (one trial). Evaluated rootstocks are experimental genotypes or new commercial Prunus of European, American and Russian origin compatible with peach.
Many are interspecific hybrid rootstocks bred specifically for root-knot nematode resistance.
To assure a nematode pathogenic diversity, rootstocks were challenged against mixtures of 7 isolates of M. javanica and 5 isolates of P. vulnus. Most rootstocks were found to be resistant to M. javanica. The plum BS N2 was resistant to P. vulnus, the rest being susceptible.
All rootstocks challenged against A. tumefaciens showed different levels of susceptibility with exception of Torinel, a plum rootstock used as a moderately resistant control.
None of the tested materials showed multiple resistance against either nematode species and the bacteria.
