Abstract
The chemical 2,3-dihydro-5,6-diphenyl-l,4-oxathiin, designated by Uniroyal Chemical as P293, was applied to pot chrysanthemum cvs.
Mandalay, Puritan and St.
Moritz at concentrations of 0.75% or 1.00% on the 18th, 20th and 22nd short days.
The same treatments also were applied to the cvs.
Indianapolis White and Indianapolis Yellow, which are popular standard cut chrysanthemums in the United States.

The lateral buds which exceeded 10mm in length were manually removed and counted in all treatments.
Over 50% of the lateral buds on the chemically treated pot plants did not require removal.
The most promising treatments were the 0.75% concentration on the 20th or 22nd short day, or 1.0% on the 20th short day.
Flowering was adversely affected when the chemical was applied on the 18th SD.

The percentage of lateral bud control on the cut cultivars ranged from 31 to 76% for the cv.
Indianapolis White and 39 to 91% for the cv.
Indianapolis Yellow.
The most promising treatments were applications of 0.75% or 1.00%, applied on the 22nd short day.
Injury to the terminal bud usually occurred if the chemical was applied on the 18th or 20th short day.
Treated plants were invariably shorter than plants which were only disbudded manually.
