TEMPERATURE EFFECTS ON POINSETTIA (EUPHORBIA PULCHERRIMA WILLD.) UNDER LONG DAY CONDITIONS

Poinsettia motherplants were grown at constant 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 or 27°C and long days.

Shoot growth increased with increasing temperature, but flower differentiation and development was strongly delayed.
However, by prolonged treatment, initiation occurred at all temperatures.

Cuttings taken from mother plants grown at low temperature showed an early flower initiation even though they were subjected to high temperature and long days during propagation and further growth.
Such cuttings gave rise to plants which frequently splitted twice.
