Abstract
The results are reported of experiments in which the effectiveness of light from low-pressure sodium lamps, used to provide night-break lighting for controlling flower initiation, has been investigated with four cultivars of chrysanthemum and one of China aster.
It was completely effective for delaying flower initiation in all four chrysanthemum cultivars, but the critical level of illuminance varied from less than 10 lux to 40 lux depending on the cultivar.
With China aster, however, it was less effective than light from incandescent lamps in causing the induction of flower initiation.
