GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF GLASSHOUSE CUT FLOWERS CROPS IN VARIOUS CONDITIONS OF HEATING DURING THE WINTER

The results concerning the development chiefly the rate of evolution from planting to harvest, were obtained for 2 to 4 cultivars in the species tulip, iris, gladiolus, chrysanthemum, antirrhinum, gerbera and rose, in glasshouses heated during the night at + 13°C, + 10°C and + 8°C. The results of a soil heating make-up were also noted.

The relative importance of night and day temperatures, as well as the growing degree x hours (GDH) concept are discussed.

Some of the external and internal conditions necessary for the elongation of the stems-which occurs mainly at night- are exposed.
