Abstract
The extract of Momordica charantia L. was obtained from the fruit by the biochemistry methods.
The results of the optimum condition for extraction techniques showed that the ethanol content was 80%, the ratio of raw material to ethanol was 1:40, the extracting temperature was 60°C, the total extracting time was 6h, and extracting times were twice.
The results of the effect of insect-resistance and inhibition activity were studied in this research.
The results showed that the extract of Momordica charantia L. had contact toxicity to Beet armyworm, and the rectified rate of death was 72% 48h later.
The extract had no contact toxicity to Heliothis armigera. The extract had antifeeding activity to Heliothis armigera and Beet armyworm.
The rate of antifeeding of the extract with diluting 30 times, 20 times and 10 times to Beet armyworm was 60.02% and 56.22% at 24h and 48h.
To Heliothis armigera, the rate was 50.64% and 54.09%. The rectified rate of death to Beet armyworm was 50.64% and 54.09% at 24h and 48h, to Heliothis armigera, the rate was 42.5%and 79.60%. The antimicrobial action of the extract of Momordica charantia L. with a series of bacterium and fungi were also studied in this research.
The results showed that the extract of Momordica charantia L. can effectively inhibit the growth of bacterium and some yeast.
The extract cannot effectively inhibit the growth of molds.
The mechanism of antimicrobe needs further study.
