Abstract
The influence of single and double shelters on the climate and heat consumption of greenhouses was calculated (by means of a mathematical model). By double sheltering heat consumption can be deminished and the influence of the outside conditions on heat consumption and climate of a greenhouse can be reduced.
Double sheltering increases the relative humidity of the air and decreases the transpiration of plants.
This reduction is not only caused by the reduced amount of heat consumption but is also influenced by the physical properties of the shelter material.
Materials with a high reflectivity to long wave radiation cause, in comparison to other materials, a lower heat consumption and a relativly high transpiration rate of plants.
