Abstract
In order to investigate a self-contained solar-heated utility system, heat exchanged greenhouses were made, and air recirculation through the greenhouse and exchangers were examined in closed systems.
Two different types of heat exchangers, plastic pipes or piled rocks in the soil were used in each greenhouse.
The rate of air circulation was controlled once per minute.
The greenhouses were covered with double layers of PVC-film throughout the day.
A CO2 concentration in the greenhouse was controlled during the cropping period.
A minimum room temperature was maintained at 10°C in some fairly cold morning, when outside temperature reached -8°C. The yield and quality of tomato were almost similar to or better than those of conventional greenhouses.
Primary energy efficiency of the system with rocks was nearly four times that of oil heated greenhouse.
