Abstract
A 60 m x 88 m solar heated greenhouse has been constructed at Kube Pak Garden Plants, Inc. facility in Allentown, New Jersey, USA. The system is based upon the solar heating system for greenhouses designed at Rutgers University and reported by Mears, 1977. The new 0.54 ha section is part of a 4.5 ha complex.
The design utilizes the four components of the Rutgers system; the energy saving blanket solar collectors, floor warm-water storage, and movable vertical curtain heat exchangers.
Figure 1 illustrates the major components of the system.
