Abstract
The effects of Methyl-JA (MeJA) on resistance to root-knot nematode of tomato mutants that over-express and were JA defective were investigated.
In comparison with the control, proteinase inhibitor-II (PI-II) content decreased in JA defective tomato spr2 plants after inoculating with root-knot nematodes, and more root-knots were observed on the roots.
After spraying with MeJA, root-knot numbers decreased but PI-II content increased both in controls and in spr2 plants, and there were no differences between the two treatments.
For JA over-expressed tomato 35S::PS plants, whether sprayed with MeJA or not, PI-II content and root-knot numbers did not change, remaining the same among all the treatments with PI-II content greatest and root-knot numbers least.
