Abstract
Explants of bulb scales of Lilium speciosum ‘Rubrum’ nr. 10 were cultured in vitro on nutrient media in which the concentration of sucrose, MS mineral salts, or certain organic substances was varied.
After 10 weeks of culture, the average number of adventitiously formed plantlets per explant and the average fresh bulblet weight were determined.

Within the chosen range of sucrose concentrations (0–10% w/v), those below 3% were limiting for both plantlet formation and bulblet growth.
Mineral salt concentrations higher than ¼ MS strength stimulated bulb growth, whereas the main increase in the number of plantlets per explant was found between 0–¼ MS strength.

Addition of organic substances had a favourable effect on both plantlet number and bulblet growth.
